Accounts

An Accounts colleague holds the financial responsibility within the business. Running payrolls for multiple departments and hundreds of colleagues. Ensuring correct rates, annual leave, overtime, expenses, taxes and pension contributions are all included accurately, and payslips received promptly prior to payday.

Quick thinking and problem solving are vital skills to hold while working within the Accounting team, correcting problems which may arise (possibly due to incorrect details given or an issue with a certain bank) in a timely manner to ensure no financial hardship is caused.

While most may view wages as the most important part of an Accounts colleague's role there are many other responsibilities held as well. Invoices received from external businesses who provide goods and services must be paid on time, as well as ensuring invoices are sent to external businesses and customers. To ensure viability for the businesses future our Accounts colleagues will oversee the billing process after invoices have been sent, prompting payments where deadlines have been overlooked and supporting customers through the process where necessary. Without receiving payments for services provided, the business would not be able to continue and provide future support for our community.

An important part of an Accounts person's role is ensuring the data relating to care visits is verified and adeptly checked before execution of the billing process, the Accounts team prepare over 1500 invoices on a 4-weekly basis, so it's important that the process is conducted in a proficient manner.

As with other positions within First City, within the Accounts team compliance must be upheld to ensure tax returns are accurate and completed on time, as well as enabling a smooth process for regular audits undertaken (both internally and by external bodies).

Our Accounts colleagues are very knowledgeable within their field and are always on hand to discuss queries and explain processes with colleagues and customers. It is of high importance for a member of the Accounts team to follow GDPR guidance and always ensure confidential information is respected and protected.

It takes an honest individual to work within the Accounts role; someone who is kind, caring, compassionate, honest and truly wants to make a difference to the lives of others by ensuring the finances of the business are safe to ensure a viable future for First City, our staff and customers.

Without the Acounts team there would be no wages paid and thus no staff across the business to roster shifts, recruit new colleagues, provide training, create support plans or provide the many hours of support to our local community.

It's clear to see how our Accounts colleagues contribute to every hour of care First City provide, stay tuned for our next post, exploring what a Reception Colleague contributes...
