A Training colleague will meet and train every person who joins First City employment regardless of role, to ensure all colleagues are equipped with the basic knowledge of what healthcare entails through our induction. In order to do this, they must remain experts within their field, keeping up to date with changes to best practice and legislation, attending train the trainer courses and keeping in touch with current news within the industry and advances in technology and assistive equipment.

From the start of a care workers career, throughout their emplyment with First City, a training colleague will support with career development, delivering refresher courses in addition to new and sometimes bespoke sessions (including GSA, Epilepsy Awareness and End of Life Care). As well as supporting individuals on a one to one basis with the care certificate workbook and further studies, such as Levels 2,3 and 5 in Health and Social Care.

Our training colleagues are adaptable to the requirements of the business, providing additional courses when requested to meet recruitment requirements, or ensure the safety of our customers and also to meet compliance needs in line with requirements from both CQC and the local council.

Not only do our training team provide courses to internal colleagues, they also welcome colleagues from across the health and social care sector, as well as facilitating specialised closed courses when requested.

The training at First City always receives such positive feedback. Hosting courses in-house allows practical sessions to be undertaken, with out Trainers being able to demonstrate equipment that a Care Worker will use when supporting customers, and then observe each individual to ensure they are using each piece correctly and safely. Our Training colleagues will sometimes visit our Care Workers during customer visits to do spot check observations on moving and assisting practice or to assist with new equipment being introduced to customers.

It takes a skilled individual to work within the Training role; someone who is kind, caring, compassionate, honest and truly wants to make a difference to the lives of others by ensuring good practice and knowledge across the whole workforce who can then deliver quality support to our community.


Without the Training team we would be unable to deliver excellent training to our colleagues internally and across the healthcare industry, we would be unable to recruit candidates without experience and we would be reliant on outsourced training, which may not be delivered to our high standards.
